Locos fall 6-0 in game one and win 5-2 in game two
In game one, the Locos bats were silenced by righthanded starter Phil Klein. Klein nearly had the complete game shut-out but was pulled with two outs in the bottom of the seventh after allowing two runners aboard. Aaron Hammons came on and picked up the last out, sealing the 6-0 victory for the Settlers.
However, the Locos came out and appeared to be ready to get over the hump and begin improving on their .213 team batting average. Anthony Toth singled to lead off the game and Tristan Moore would follow suite. But after a Danny Jones single in the second, the Locos bats went cold. So cold, in fact, that they would not collect another hit until a Matt Baca lead-off double in the sixth. Baca was left stranded at second. Toth would tack on another single in the seventh but the Locos would never really threaten to score as they only had one runner get passed second in the ball game (Toth in the first).
Chris Rearick took the loss for the Locos going 3.2 innnigs giving up four runs (one earned) on five hits. An unfortuante fourth did in Rearick as he gave up three consecutive singles to lead-off the inning, despite none of the balls being hit hard. With the bases loaded, a ground ball was hit to first baseman Matt Baca who tried to cut off the run at the plate and the throw was errant, allowing a run to score. Two more singles in the inning would drive in the other three runs, and the Locos were never able to come back from the deficit.
The Locos fell to 7-3 while the Settlers improved to 6-3.
In game two, the Locos jumped out early and rode a strong pitching performance from Jeff Sheilds in route to a 5-2 victory.
In the first, Kent Myer reached on error and was retired on a Tristan Moore fielders choice. Tristan Moore then stole second, and the throw from catcher John Turk got into the outfield and past centerfielder John McCambridge allowing Moore to come around and score. Troy Snitker followed with a walk, and Ryan Bridges promtply doubled off the left field wall putting runners on first and third for Thomas Carroll. Carroll hit a grounder to second which was mishandled allowing him to reach first, and Troy Snitker to score making the score 2-0.
Lima would tack on two more in the second thanks to an rbi triple off the bat of Kent Myer. Myer would come in to score on a wild pitch, making the score 4-0.Thomas Carroll would add another run in the third with a majestic blast over the right-center field fence, his second home run in as many days.
That would be all the runs necessary for Jeff Shields who worked a stellar six innings for the orange and blue. Shields only made one mistake on the evening, a two-run homer off the bat of Chris Serritella in the fourth. Shields only gave up two hits in six innings, striking out eight and walking one. Bobby Brosnahan and Nick Sarianides would work three scorless innings to finish out the game, with Sarianides collecting his fifth save of the season.
The Locos move to 8-3 while the Settlers fall to 6-4. The Locos will be in action Monday at 4 p.m. as they travel to take on the Lake Erie Monarchs in a double header.
