
Locos pitchers work two shut-outs in sweep of Lake Erie Monarchs
Game 1
The first batter of the Game, Anthony Toth, reached on an error, stole second, and eventually scored on a ground out. This run in the first would end up being the game-winner as the Locos won 1-0 in first game of the double header; a game that only lasted one hour and twenty-five minutes. Both starters went the distance with Tyler Newhart collecting the win and D. Bream collecting the tough-luck loss for the Monarchs. Newhart went sevent scoreless innings, giving up four hits while striking out four and walking one. Bream also went seven only surrendering two hits while striking out eight and walking none, however the unearned run scored in the first would result in Bream collecting the loss.
Anthony Toth and Thomas Carroll were the only Locos to record hits, both were singles.
Game 2
Great pitching from the Locos dominated game two as well. Ajay Meyer, Scott Pollock, and Kolby Wood would combine for a three-hit shutout while the Locos bats awoke for eight hits and four runs.
Lima got on the board in the top of the third as Kent Myer singled with two outs and stole second. With Myer on second, Tristan Moore singled to center for an RBI single before being stranded on second after stealing a base of his own. The Locos would not score again until the top of the seventh when they put up two more runs. T.J. Daugherty lead off with a walk and was moved to second when Eric Charles singled. Anthony Toth laid down a sacrifice bunt advance Daugherty and Charles into scoring position. Myer would deliver again on his big night (3 for 4 1R, 2RBI) singling in both runners moving the Locos lead to 3-0. They would add another run in the top of the eigth after Thomas Carroll doubled and eventually came in to score on a Danny Jones RBI ground-out.
Ajay Meyer collected the win and moved to 3-0 on the year. Meyer went seven scoreless innings giving up the only three hits of the game while striking out three and walking none. Pollock and Wood each threw a scoreless inning to seal the victory and move the Locos to 10-3 on the year.
