
Locos defeat Lake Erie Monarhcs for fourth time this season
The Locos have had the number of the Lake Erie Monarchs this season as they are 4-0 against them this season. In those four games the Locos have outscored the Monarchs 36-7. In their most recent match-up on Tuesday the Locos hammered out 14 hits in route to their 14-5 victory.
The Locos jumped out early in the first when they took advantage of free passes as they saw four differnt batters get plunked by Monarch starter Tim Corbey. All four of the batters hit came around to score in the inning as part of the seven runs scored by Lima in the first. Kent Myer, J.D. Ashbrook, Danny Jones, and Chris Sosebee were the four victims. They were brought home by three hits in the inning. Ryan Bridges singled in a run, Matt Baca shot a big three-run double to the opposite field gap and Eric Charles added a double of his own.
The Locos bats would not stop there. They tacked on two more in the second, three in the fourth, and two more in the fifth to account for their 14 runs. Ashbrook, Carroll, Jones, Bridges, and Charles all recorded multi-hit games while Chris Sosebee recorded four rbi's on just one hit. Carroll hit his fourth home run of the season with a two-run shot over the right-center field wall in the fifth.
Derek Varnadore started on the mound for the Locos but as unable to get the win despite the big lead. Varnadore threw four plus innings as he came out to start the fifth but left without recording any outs after walking the bases loaded. Jordan Wolfe came on in relief and worked a solid two innnings surrendering one run on just one hit. Wolfe took the win, his third of the season. Corbey took the loss for the Monarchs.
With the win the Locos move to 21-6 on the year while the Monarchs fall to 9-16. The Locos will take on Anderson at 7 p.m. on Wednesday. Listen live at limalocos.net.
