LIMA, Ohio -- The Locos came from behind in two different games to sweep the Southern Ohio Copperheads 2-1 and 6-4. The double header was a rematch of last years GLSCL Championship, in which the Locos won the League.
Game One saw a low scoring affair as Lima won 2-1 thanks to a TJ Losby solo home run and a pair of stolen bases followed by an error that saw Ivan de Jesus come home and score in walk off fashion.
Jeremy Gooding had the start and pitched 6.1 innings allowing only four hits and one unearned run. He also posted nine strikeouts and one walk. Justin McCalvin pitched in relief and picked up the win, his first of the season. He pitched 0.2 innings allowing no runs or hits and posted one walk.
In game two Lima jumped up to a 3-0 lead before back to back Copperhead home runs saw the Locos trail 4-3. But the Locos bounced back and won 6-4 thanks to a strong sixth inning.
Zach Botjer started on the mound and picked up the win, his fourth. His 6.2 innings saw five hits, four earned runs, along with six strikeouts and one walk. Garrick Whittle (1.1 IP, 3 BB, 1 SO) and Justin McCalvin (1.0 IP, 1 SO) pitched in relief. McCalvin also picked up the win.
Lima improves to 15-7 and leads the GLSCL. They will hit the road but be back home at Simmons Field on Monday versus the Lake Erie Monarchs. First pitch is set for 7 pm.
