SHAWNEE TOWNSHIP --
The Lima Locos played
the first of three exhibition games Tuesday night, posting an 11-3 win
over the Allen Express at Shawnee Field. As has been the practice the
last several years, Head Coach Rob Livchak used 5 pitchers, who
combined to strike out 12 batters.
Matt Bischoff
(Purdue), the reigning Big 10 Freshman Pitcher of the Year, started and
threw two scoreless innings with 3 strikeouts. Tyler Gatrell, J.R.
Peck, Casey Ingel all pitched 2 innings as well, with Adam Quinn
striking out the side in the ninth to finish things off.
Offensively the Locos
scored 4 in the fifth and 5 in the eighth. Tom Howard’s (Central
Michigan) two-run double keyed the fifth inning outburst and the Locos
put things away in the eighth with a two-run double by James Teas
(Central Michigan), a run scoring triple by Danny Jones (Shawnee
H.S./Marietta), and a two-run home run from The University of
Kentucky’s Keenan Wiley. Teas was 3 for 3 overall, while Wiley was 2
for 2 with a walk and 3 RBI to go with the lone long-ball of the game.
The Locos roster
features many players who have demonstrated the ability to steal bases
and that showed last night with the team posting a total of 9 SB’S, led
by CF Eric Moore’s (Montevallo) three thefts.
The Locos are back in
exhibition action tonight at Shawnee Field taking on the Lima Legion
Post 96 team (4-0) at 7 p.m.
